Test Review

OK, so before I get started on this review I'd luike to apologize to Kevin. I had all the intentions of leaving a comment on his paper, but I cannot find his blog. Anyway, sorry kevin.

Test review:
1) Nietzche says we are all walking Dictionaries
-In a literate culture we pick and choose what we know (Ong 104)

2)Lull's Memory System: Motion, no images, non corporeal, it uses the ladder of ascent and descent and a tree of memory

3) Litereary tradition is the plot triangle: Rising action, Climax, Falling action, resolution
Oral tradition has the framed boxes or "mis-en-obyme" (Ong chapter 6)

4)The refoermation would not have been possible without the printing press.

5)What is the signifigance of the mandala in finigan's wake? Circled Square, reconciliation of opossites

6)What is demotcratic about the creation of the alphabet? Since this was my question I'll elaborate a little on what I was trying to get at: In one corner you have the Chinese writing system with over 40,000 characters. It's an elitist system accesible only to those that have the leisure time to learn it, which is why in some cultures a scribe was not looked upon as a secretary as he would have been in an alphabetic society. The alphabet, today's english alphabet for example, has a mere 26 letters that can be learned before the 2nd grade. With such a system there is nothing elitist about reading and writing, instead it is democratic, accesible to the people.

7)Gesong Ist Dazeine- Song is Existance (ong 142)

8) Finality and closure (Ong 130)

9)Yates, 224 "Such a memory would be the memory of a divine man..." Bruno

10) Alithiometer- Lull's "thruth Monitor" (I still want to call it a golden compass) To Lull, knowledge is gained by not forgeting.

11) Camillo built the 7 pillars of Solomon's house of wisdom, representative of the 7 planets

12)Illiad final lines:"Such were the funeral of hector, tamer of horses." From Sutter's memory theature.

13) The alphabet was invented ONLY ONCE!

14)there is a 1 iun 3 chance of coincidence... or of everything. Dr. Sexson's humor.

15)What did Tai and Roberty use as their memory systems? (Their bodies)

16)Writing>Speach>Gesture

18) Lull uses the Cabala's alphabetical system as in his own memory system. Yates 188

19) What does the Hebrew alphabet not have? (Vowels)

20) LTRTR, NGLSH. It's like reading license plates. Mine says SPR PMP... not really, but that's what it reminds me of.

21)Yates 203. Read about Bruno rushing out of the convent.

22) Ong chap 5 (126) Tristram Shandy by Laurence Stern used blank space to convey silence in text, going as far as to leave entirely blank pages.

23) Also in Ong, Easter wings, The poem by George Herberd that is shaped like a pair of wings.

24) Finnegan's Wake is the most notoriously unread famous book.

25) Kane- Myths are repositories of practical knowledge (don't eat white berries)
